Wood County

Miles of trails make Wood County a preferred destination for hiking, biking, and all kinds of trail riding. Autumn is the best-known season for cranberry color, but June and July have a special beauty all their own. In summer our “crane berries” bloom with delicate pink blossoms creating a magical carpet over the marshes. Even in winter the countryside sparkles as the vines rest under a blanket of snow. Come and enjoy the autumn colors, delicious flavors, wildlife viewing, scenic country roads, and friendly people of the Wood County.

The impressive focal point of the Marshfield Fairgrounds is the “World’s Largest Round Barn”. The round barn was built in 1916 to house purebred animals in 250 stanchions. The barn is 150 feet in diameter and 70 feet high, it is a wonder to behold. The awesome sight of the arena, with no supporting beams apparent becomes even more wondrous as one realizes this architectural feat was accomplished without benefit of scaffolding.
