Oconto’s unique location along the Oconto River and the waters of Green Bay provides a variety of recreational opportunities to the fisherman, powered pleasure crafts, and sailing vessels. The harbor, located on the west shore of Green Bay, with its 3,000 foot breakwater, boat launches, mooring and docking facilities, picnic pavilion, and restaurant is a popular recreation area. The fourteen municipal slips and transient docks are enhanced by a private marina and yacht club on the Oconto River that provide over 100 additional slips, 20 deep water moorings, a ship’s store and boater services, boat lift, and indoor and outdoor storage. Seasonal and daily docking is available, along with three additional launch areas along the river.

The Oconto area has 4 beautiful seasons filled with opportunities for recreation. The town itself, located at the mouth of the Oconto River as it enters the waters of Green Bay, is rich in history, mainly because of this location along the river and west shore of the Bay. Early settlers arrived by steampowered boat traveling the Great Lakes and a community grew on the bayshore and began commercial fishing. Lumbering became the primary focus in the mid 1800’s, and logs were floated down the Oconto River and shipped to market by boat.

Located less than an hour north of Green Bay, Oconto County can provide world-class fishing for walleyes, smallmouth and largemouth bass, trout, salmon, and northern pike. In addition to fishing, any person who enjoys wildlife and the outdoors should visit the area and cruise some of the picturesque county roads. The Oconto River also provides plenty of opportunity for fun in the sun and water activities! You will find well maintained parks, playground facilities, and local area golf courses.
