New Lisbon is located on the beautiful Lemonweir River in Juneau County in central Wisconsin. According to Indian Folklore, the area now known as New Lisbon was used as a winter location for hunting and trapping. During its heyday, New Lisbon was a bustling center for railroad activity, providing service for industries as well as passenger service. Today, New Lisbon is still a point of destination for many visitors with summer and winter receational plans.

New Lisbon, WisconsinAs you enter this charming little city from Interstate 90/94, you're greeted by several businesses along with a calm, serene pond and the lovely Riverside Park. Excellent recreational opportunities await you all year round. Fishing, boating, hiking, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling and the nearby Elroy-Sparta State Bike Trail as well as the Omaha Trail beckon you to explore, or to rest and relax among majestic pines and oaks.

Indian Mounds near New Lisbon, WisconsinThe Gee's Slough Group of Indian Mounds is placed on the National Register of Historic Places. These Mounds are located just outside of the City of New Lisbon. These type of mounds can be found throughout Wisconsin. The New Lisbon Area was a gathering place for the Woodland Culture Indians; they are the ancestors to the Winnebago tribe. The effigys represented at in this group are the panther or water spirit, the totem of the clan. The linear mound was an important setting for the Woodland Indian's religious rites. The round or oval mound is sometimes joined by a linear mound to form a dumbell shaped mound and were also sites of burials of other members of the tribe. The mounds are always open to the public, located just off of U.S. Highway 12 & 16, turning onto Mounds View Road.

New Lisbon, WisconsinNew Lisbon is just a short drive (less than two hours) from Madison, our State Capital. In the opposite direction is LaCrosse via Interstate 90-94 or Hwys 12 & 16. From Marshfield and points northeast, Hwy 80 provides easy access to our area. New Lisbon is located 12 miles from Castle Rock Lake, which is the 4th largest inland lake in Wisconsin. On the shores of the lake you'll find Castle Rock County Park, Buckhorn State Park, and several private resorts and campgrounds. Look for adventure in New Lisbon in Juneau County!
