As one of the Top 100 Rodeos in the U.S., Spooner’s Heart of the North Rodeo always attracts skilled contestants. Rodeo Weekend is only one highlight of Spooner’s busy event calendar every year, occurring in early July. Spooner Rodeo events include bull and bronco riding, steer wrestling, roping, barrel racing, bareback riding and team roping. The town of Spooner really goes all out to make the Rodeo weekend enjoyable for all ages. Other events include a Saturday afternoon equestrian parade, the Coronation of the Rodeo Queen, live music every night, and the popular Cowboy Sunday morning service held outdoors at the rodeo arena.
Largemouth bass are the most widespread game fish species in the county.Smallmouth bass are found in 27 lakes and four streams. Musky are found in several lakes and two streams. Shell Lake is the most important musky fishing water in the county. The Trego Flowage, Yellow River, and Namekagon River below the Trego Dam also host musky The Northwest Sports Complex is nestled in the heart of beautiful Spooner, boasting a 6000 square foot fitness and plyo-metric center, an indoor track, a near Olympic size pool, and indoor ice arena as well as racquetball and wallyball courts.
