Tomahawk is in the Northwoods, where scenic lakes, woods, and endless recreational opportunities intertwine. As summer nears, things kick into high gear with the first major car show of the season. Main Street Memories takes over the entire main street of downtown. 300+ classic cars are on display, drawing an 5,000+ people into the downtown area on a late spring day. Car owners vie for more than 60 trophies to be awarded in 21 classes. The event also features an automotive swap meet and a traditional large craft fair, along with a Petting Zoo for the kids and delicious concessions.

Northwoods scenery - forests, lakes, rivers, wildlife and unique businesses - is sometimes best viewed from behind the wheel of a car or the handlebars of a motorcycle. Highway 51 is the route that ties together northern and southern Wisconsin, creating a link between the people and a pathway for travelers to explore the many cultures, cuisines and nostalgia of mid-America. Or, strap on a bike helmet and enjoy a ride in the Northwoods, ranging from rolling hills and rugged landscapes to paved roadways. From mountain bikers to touring riders with children, there’s a trail in Lincoln County to meet the cruising destination of choice.

Whether you’re looking to drop a line and snag a trophy muskie, go out for an afternoon in the boat or just sit back and enjoy a sunset over the water, the Tomahawk area offers a wealth of lakes and rivers to enjoy the endeavor. The Lake Nokomis chain includes Deer, Bridge and Clear Lakes. Fish to be caught include muskie, large and smallmouth bass, crappies, bluegills, perch, pumpkinseed sunfish and bullheads. No matter the season, you will see many fishermen casting a line or drilling a hole through the ice to land their prize catch. In the hot, summer months the lake will be buzzing with boats, pontoons and personal watercraft all enjoying the sun and fresh air. In July there is even a pontoon boat parade that travels the lake enjoying the natural scenery and beautiful homes that decorate the shoreline.

Whether it’s a snowmobile or an all-terrain vehicle (ATV), the greater Tomahawk area has a lot to offer riders in way of trails, such as The Harrison Hills ATV Trail east of Tomahawk, which takes ATV enthusiasts through more than 40 miles of Wisconsin’s rough, glacial terrain. The two-way trail is open all year with the exception of April, October and November. All trails are very scenic and traverse glacial moraine, upland hardwood, cedar swamps, farm fields, small streams and lakes. A variety of town roads also are open for ATV travel.
