 Paddlers will find a number of rivers and streams, as well as a number of no-motor lakes that are ideal for canoeing and kayaking. There are plenty of paddling opportunities close to town, as well as some secluded lakes deep in the bush for those looking to get far from civilization. Imagine gliding slowly along the wooded shores of a wilderness lake, watching loons feeding in calm clear waters and passing beneath some of the tallest white pines in the Northwoods. From remote ponds to some of the easily accessible backwaters of some of our largest lakes, you’ll have no trouble finding your own piece of paddling paradise.
 With 1,300 lakes and more than 70 rivers and streams, Vilas County is pure scenery. You’ll rarely go more than a mile without crossing a stream or seeing the blue water of one of Vilas County’s amazing lakes. In addition to its clean, sparkling waters, Vilas County also boasts some of the largest and oldest trees in all the Northwoods. Stands of ancient hemlocks and white pine are found throughout the county. This natural bounty combined with an endless variety of quiet roads makes this an ideal place for bicycle touring.
 The St. Germain Golf Club opened as a nine hole facility in 1993, with expansion to eighteen holes in 1996. The golf course, stretching to 6,651 yards from the back tees, will challenge the most seasoned golfer as well as provide the social player with a most memorable golfing experience. With the opening of the new holes, the course was rerouted to become one of the most scenic and enjoyable in the area. Carved out of a dense white and red pine forest, the St. Germain Golf Club provides beauty as well as pure golfing pleasures. Our move to non-metal spikes in 1998 shows our commitment to providing the finest playing conditions possible.
