 Welcome to Sheboygan County, located between the shores of Lake Michigan and the Northern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest. When people think of Sheboygan County, the first things that come to mind are golf and fishing. We certainly are proud of the golf courses and fishing opportunities that have brought so many visitors to this area; however, we have so much more to offer and want your experience with us to be memorable.
Championship road racing and the thrill of Lake Michigan sport fishing will satisfy the adventurous spirit. Unique shopping experiences are plentiful at Deer Trace Mall, the Shops at Woodlake and the Riverfront shops along the Fishing Shanty Village.
 Sheboygan is a community for all seasons. For the sports fan Sheboygan County offers not only some of the best golfing in the nation, but also salmon and trout fishing on Lake Michigan, baseball, snowmobiling, ice fishing and don’t forget about races at North America’s longest and finest natural road racing facility, Road America. For the artist in all of us, you will want to make sure you experience our performing art series ranging from a symphony concert, ballet, plays, musicals; history and art museums and art exhibits are located throughout the County.
 Sheboygan County is built on industry and trade and has become a top tourist destination. Its history is diverse in culture from the early settlers to the most recent renovations and innovations. There are many theories as to how Sheboygan got its name, but the one most likely indicates Sheboygan was a Chippewa Indian word meaning "passage or waterway between the lakes." French explorers Jean Nicolett (1635) and Joliet and Marquette (1643) were probably the first "white men" to experience the shores of Sheboygan. Our area has something for everyone to enjoy, and has become a hub of growth and excitement. It’s a great place to live, raise a family, retire, golf and is a world-class manufacturing community. In January 2005, Sheboygan was ranked as the 13th metro safe city in the Country, and was also being ranked 7th most financially fit in cities under 200,000 in population.
We have Little Treasures …a sculptured chimney sweep named Billy Budd, a 20 ft. high Holstein cow and a bolt of petrified lightning. And we have Big Treasures …The American Club, Blue Harbor Resort and The Osthoff Resort, the John Michael Kohler Arts Center (don't miss the bathrooms!) and the Stefanie H. Weill Center for the Performing Arts. Best of all we have friendly people, anxious to talk to you about stagecoach inns, Lake Michigan shipwrecks, Clovis point arrowheads, Indian Mound burial sites, maple forest trails, or double brats.
