Enjoy Our Hospitality

Located in the beautiful Red Cedar River valley, the City of Rice Lake is the largest community in Barron County and serves as a center for commerce, manufacturing, health and educational services. Rice Lake was founded as a logging camp in the 1850s and continues to thrive today. A variety of recreation, from fishing and hiking to golfing and gaming, draws visitors to the town. A recreation of what life in this beautiful region was like during the logging era is displayed at the Pioneer Village Museum, just south of Rice Lake.

The Rice Lake area features fishing, snowmobiling, hiking, ATVing, camping, and much much more. Rice Lake is prime for recreation, with lakes for ice fishing or cross country skiing. There just isn't enough time in the fall to do everything that we want to do. There are area ski hills, snowshoeing and snowmobile trails and hiking trails...there is so much to do! We have everything from pristine lakes to waterslides; from nature trails and nature preserves to go-cart tracks; from a restored pioneer village to a modern shopping mall with everything you might need, including the latest in fashion. We have an excellent educational and health care system, and nature supplies us with some of the finest recreational opportunities. But best of all--and for those seeking peace and quiet--here is the place to come to where you can just relax and enjoy the silence.

UW-Barron County is home to many cultural events including concerts performed by the Red Cedar Symphony Orchestra, Red Cedar Choir, Northwinds British Brass Band, and the Communiversity Band. The UW-Barron drama department presents up to three productions during the academic year and the UW-BC Foundation sponsors the annual Fine Arts Gala and Hoop Dee Doo two-day polka fest with art exhibits

Rice Lake offers so much to do, indoors and outdoors, year-round, with many beautiful area parks, live theater, community events, the lakes and woods, the unique geologic formations of the nearby Blue Hills; the UW-Barron campus; and many other area attractions, activities, and recreation. The Hunt Hill Audubon Sanctuary just outside of Rice Lake offers all kinds of nature opportunities, special lectures, and classes, year-round. Rice Lake won first place for "The best drinking water in Wisconsin," and was chosen third in the WORLD for "Best Municipal Drinking Water!"
