Sauk City, Prairie du Sac, Sauk Prairie Wisconsin, Where Eagles Soar

Sauk City, along with her sister city Prairie du Sac (Sauk Prairie), are located on the banks of the Wisconsin River. The villages are located on U.S. Highway 12 and State Highways 60 and 78 about 20 miles north of Madison, Wisconsin, and about 13 miles south of  Baraboo along the Wisconsin River.

You can enjoy many events through out the year including Bald Eagle watching in the winter, and throwing cow chips on Labor Day Weekend at one of Wisconsin's most peculiar annual events, the Wisconsin State Cow Chip Throw and Art Fair.

Sauk City, Prairie du Sac, Sauk Prairie WisconsinJoin us to each fall to watch Big Time Cow Chip throwers compete for the coveted prize of a trip to Beaver, Oklahoma for the national championship. Also plan on spending part of the day browsing through the Art Fair tents, featuring dozens of exhibitors. While you're here, and if you are feeling adventurous, you can throw a couple of chips yourself.

Sauk City, Prairie du Sac, Sauk Prairie Wisconsin You can also enjoy a guided tour and wine tasting offered daily at nearby Wollersheim Winery. This historic winery is nestled in the hills overlooking the Wisconsin River , and plays host to their Ruby Nouveau Wine Tasting the Saturday before Thanksgiving, a Port Release Celebration the last Saturday in January, and a Winery Open House with grapevine pruning and cooking with wine demonstrations the first full weekend of March. Sauk Prairie is also the boyhood home of August Derleth, one of Wisconsin's most prolific writers.

Sauk City, Prairie du Sac, Sauk Prairie WisconsinThe Dam at Prairie du Sac is a popular spot on the Wisconsin River the whole year round. If you visit here in the summer you will always find folks with fishing poles, trying their luck below the dam.  In winter the open water provides a perfect feeding area for the region's population of Bald Eagles. In January, join us for Bald Eagle Watching Days, featuring special activities and educational events at the River Arts Center.
