Winter comes with even more reasons to play outside in the Oconomowoc area. With the freezing of the lakes, its time for ice fishing, figure skating, hockey games and ice boating. The snow-covered countryside is ideal for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and sledding. The Highlands of Olympia, in Oconomowoc, features downhill skiing and snowboarding on Olympia Ski Hill, the highest point between Madison and Milwaukee. Nashotah Park, between Oconomowoc and Hartland, features groomed cross-country ski trails. In autumn, bow and firearm hunters take to the woods, fields and marshes in quest of deer, small game, upland birds and waterfowl. The fall colors bring out hikers, bikers and Sunday drivers. Spring carpets the forest floor with flowering trillium, followed by the mushroom hunters in search of delectable morels.

Oconomowoc area communities also host special events and festivals throughout the year. Ebert’s Greenhouse Village annually holds a Summer Breeze Festival, Mum Festival and Country Harvest Fair. A highlight of the year is the annual Oconomowoc Festival of the Arts, one of the nation’s best juried art fairs. Held the third weekend in August for more than 30 years, the event features music on three stages, food booths, children’s art activities and artwork by local and nationally-known artists.
