DeForest is close to a variety of waterways for recreation and fishing and by open lands for hunting. Our bike trails encourage many a cycling enthusiast to tour our area. Lake Wisconsin, Lake Mendota and Lake Monona are all nearby. The Wisconsin Dells are a mere forty-five minutes north of us. There are colleges, tech schools and universities in Madison, WI. twenty minutes away from DeForest. The Village was incorporated in 1904 and is located immediately north of the City of Madison, the state capitol of Wisconsin. DeForest is easily accessible from State Highway 51 and Interstate Highways 94, 90 and 39. DeForest is an hour and a half from Milwaukee, WI. and two hours from Chicago, Illinois.
Once in the “North Star” you will find scenic biking and walking trails, a full schedule of events at our new performing arts center, festivals, two annual runs, a variety of restaurants, 26 beautiful parks, retail stores, and plenty of hotels, inns, and camping sites for you to stay the night! There are many attractions for the nature enthusiast, including the Mackenzie Environmental Center, the Culver Natural Springs Conservancy/Token Creek Watershed, Governor Nelson State Park, and Devil’s Lake State Park. Dane County is Wisconsin’s second largest tourist attraction.
In the summer enjoy the Vienna Tranquil 25 Mile Scenic Country Road Bike Ride, golf, frisbee golf, paintball, and more. Reservations of the Village’s park facilities can be made at the Village of DeForest Public Service Facility (205 DeForest Street). Future development of a skateboard park is being planned.
