Explore Blue Mounds
Perched atop the highest point in southern Wisconsin, Blue Mounds State Park park offers spectacular views and unique geological features. The only Wisconsin state park with a swimming pool is equipped with a lift for persons with disabilities. Cross-country ski trail in season with warming house available. The Military Ridge Bicycling Trail, which follows the natural east-west contour of the ridgeline from Fitchburg to Mineral Point, abuts on the southern edge of the park. The park is used as the finish line for the Horribly Hilly Hundreds bicycle challenge ride.
The Horribly Hilly Hundreds are a set of bike rides starting in the Village of Blue Mounds and ending at the top of Blue Mound State Park. Held in June, the ride features a 100 km and 200 km route. The organizers call it “The toughest one day Challenge Ride in the Midwest,” which is supported by the 10,000+ feet of climbing on the 200 km course. The routes take riders through the many scenic hills and valleys of the uplands.
