Adams County

If you are a new visitor to our county Welcome! Adams County is a well-kept secret, but unlike the better known (and usually crowded) tourist attractions, we’re open twenty-four hours. Two of the best-kept secrets in Wisconsin are Petenwell and Castle Rock Lakes, the second and fourth largest inland lakes in the state, together covering over sixty square miles. Whatever your passion is, adventure is waiting for you – in all seasons! While the area is quite rural and unspoiled in flavor, its amenities are quite cosmopolitan. It has excellent restaurants, a community theatre, an 18-hole, par 72 golf course (originally rated among the top 75 public courses in the country) and a choice of two casinos within 30-40 minutes driving time.

We who live in Adams County have long thought it is one of the better places in the entire state of Wisconsin to live, work, and play. Ours is a community with a healthy atmosphere in which business and agriculture can thrive, and families raise their children. Though we don’t like to brag, Adams County has an excellent school system, a burgeoning downtown district, and a modern, fully-equipped hospital. We also enjoy a thriving cultural community of the arts and theater, and have a first-rate county library. And, if those weren’t enough to hold us here, we are blessed with an abundance of beautiful scenery and clear, pure water.

Yes, there’s a lot to love about Adams County. What’s your pleasure? Adams County boasts over 200 miles of state-funded, well-groomed, well marked snowmobile trails. Many Adams County businesses and restaurants have snowmobile parking and loading areas. There are a score of snowmobile clubs and associations. Area businesses and clubs sponsor several snowmobile races and events during the winter months – and even a couple in summer. Enjoy a crackling campfire surrounded by bags of marshmallows just waiting for a toast, discover a secret cove where the fishing success ends only when the day is through, or attempt to play every golf course in the county. We have it all….. Fishing, Hunting, Snowmobiling, Golfing, Cross Country Skiing, Camping, Hiking, Backpacking, Biking, Swimming, ATV Trips, Horseback Riding, Boating, Sailing and much more. Canoeing? In addition to the magnificent Wisconsin, there are a hundred miles of scenic streams and rivers in Adams County just waiting for you to dip in a paddle.

When the golden leaves of autumn have fallen and snow blanket Adams County, the many miles of well-maintained hiking and walking trails lend themselves equally well to the cross country skier or snowshoer. Offering particularly beautiful winter scenery are Roche-a-Cri State Park and the Van Kuren Trail. Adams County used to be one of the best-kept secrets in central Wisconsin.
