Waushara County

The Waushara County area is a wonderful blend of farming and recreation, boasting more than 100 lakes, 150 miles of trout streams, 7,000 acres of public hunting and fishing, and 12 county parks. To the north, the cold-water ponds of the Wild Rose Fish Hatchery produce a quarter of all the trout and salmon stocked statewide. In western Waushara County, the UW’s Hancock Agricultural Research Station offers fascinating guided tours of its facility and the 150 research projects it conducts annually.

While in Wautoma, the county seat, visit the WWII Memorial Building. Built with a generous bequest from the late Dale Severns, the facility symbolizes the eternal debt of gratitude that our society owes to the treasured members of America’s “Greatest Generation.” The interior walls of the structure are covered with over 800 plaques telling the individual stories of the brave citizens of Waushara County. The building consists of a large atrium space, 350-person capacity meeting hall with kitchen and food service bays. Conveniently located at the intersections of Hwys. 21 and 22, it’s the perfect setting for a meeting, wedding, party or exhibit.
