Explore Land O'Lakes
Land O’ Lakes Wisconsin is home to some of the hottest fishing action in the north. The fabled Cisco Chain of lakes is located west of town, while the headwaters of the Wisconsin River and home of giant muskies, Lac Vieux Desert, is to the east. Black Oak Lake with its native lake trout population and abundance of trophy walleye and bass is a scant four miles west of town. Black Oak reaches one-hundred and fifteen feet in depth and has structure rivaling the best of the canadian shield lakes. Nearby are Ottawa National Forest and the Sylvania Wilderness Area with many thousands of acres of lakes and forest.
Land O’ Lakes is blessed with probably the most conveniently located airport in the Midwest. Land O’ Lakes airport is equipped with a 4000 X 75 foot paved all weather runway, complemented by a seasonal 2580 X 125 foot turf crosswind runway. Plans are well underway to convert the turf runway to a 5000 X 75 foot all-season paved crosswind runway. The airport is also home to 21 privately owned hangars and more additional sites have recently been approved. Pilots can also take advantage of the self serve 100LL fuel available 24 hours a day.
Snow normally covers the ground in this area from November until April, affording winter sports enthusiasts with long, magnificent winters. There are several downhill ski hills only a short drive away, and the area is a major snowmobiling hub connecting every town in the western U.P. with trails in northern Wisconsin. Abandoned railroad beds are now snowmobile and ATV trails. Snowmobile, ice fishing, ski, snowshoe, sled, sightsee, or just relax. Do a little or do a lot. You’ll long remember the breathtaking winter scenery and peacefulness.
