Wisconsin Watercolor Society
Member’s Art Show to Open in Gallery 110 North

Gallery 110 North of the Plymouth Arts Center will feature the works of over 30 members of the Wisconsin Watercolor Society in a new exhibit opening with the PAC’s 21st Annual Jazz Crawl fundraiser on Friday, August 8th. The show is generously sponsored by Thomas and Barbara Slater and Richard and Sunday Strong. The exhibition will be on display through October 3rd.

The public is invited to meet the watercolor artists during a special reception, which will be held one week later, on Friday, August 15th, from 5-7 pm. Entertainment for the reception will be presented courtesy of the Gypsy Swing Chicks. Complimentary appetizers and desserts will be served. Admission is free.

About the WWS: Wisconsin Watercolor Society was founded in 1952 by a group of Wisconsin artists led by Marion Bode and included Thomas Dietrich, Earl Gessert, Emily Groom, Gerald Landt, Dorothy Meredith, Robert Von Neumann, and Peter Rotier. They were later joined by many other well-known Wisconsin Artists. Most of the early and founding members were educators at Downer College (UWM). WWS’ membership base still includes many educators but also includes members from other professions outside the field of art who show an interest in and a love and proficiency in watercolor.

The Wisconsin Watercolor Society was the first Wisconsin art organization to be devoted exclusively to watercolor painting. Its purpose, then as now, has always been to demonstrate and exhibit meaningful development in the medium of watercolor and to serve as a catalyst for those genuinely interested in watercolor. Today, membership includes more than 80 artists who exhibit twice each year in arts centers throughout southeast Wisconsin.

The Gypsy Swing Chicks revel in the catchy music of George Gershwin and Django Reinhardt with wild ethnic music added to the mix. Featuring violin, mandolin-dobro, accordion, and upright bass to ignite an engaging time for all.

The Plymouth Arts Center is a non-profit community arts organization founded in 1993 to promote and nurture the visual and performing arts in all of Western Sheboygan County and beyond. PAC’s mission is to: Enliven the Spirit of our Community and To Enrich the Lives of All, by Providing Diverse
Experiences in the Arts. Wisconsin artists are showcased in Gallery 110 North in six uniquely different exhibits per year. Additionally, the Arts Center offers an ongoing and vibrant schedule of live musical and theatrical performances, art classes for toddlers through adults, and a gift shop featuring member artwork. Tour/School groups may schedule complimentary docent-led visits. Open Tuesday-Friday 10am-4pm; Sat-Sun. Noon to 3pm; or by special appointment. Closed on Mondays and Holidays.
