Antique Quilt Show
This event ended on February 17, 2023 1:00 pm.
Antique quilts belonging to the museum and Grant County Historical Society Members will be in the spotlight at the Grant County History Museum in Lancaster, WI, during their Antique Quilt Show running from February 13-18 with the following special events happening on Saturday, February 18th. “Before the (Civil) War” will be presented by Allison Rainboth, a 2022 Quilt Expo presenter, at 10AM. It is an opportunity to learn more about Baltimore Album quilts, the Mexican-American War, and the first printed patterns as she shares some early quilts and events that inspired them. Then at 1PM Barbara Peterson, also a 2022 Quilt Expo presenter, will make a presentation titled “Preserving Quilt Heritage” in which she discusses methods to clean and store quilts, how to do minor repairs, and how best to finish vintage quilt tops with a Q&A to follow.
Allison is also an AQS Certified Quilt Appraiser and will be doing quilt appraisals for those registering beforehand for the service. Joey Mahieu, owner of Against the Grain Quilt Shop in Mineral Point, will also be on hand for informal assessments of quilts for anyone wishing to bring in a quilt for her to help answer questions regarding its date and pattern. In addition to these quilt experts, the St. Clement Quilters will be demonstrating hand-quilting using a frame at various times of the day. Sponsorships by the Old House Enthusiasts, Hidden Quilts, Pins and Pieces Quilt Shop, the Quilt Peddler, Lancaster’s Chamber of Commerce, JEM Antiques, and Bette Steinbrenner make these presentations possible.
Since the Grant County History museum located at 135 E. Maple Street in Lancaster is a nonprofit, all volunteer organization, they are also sponsoring a raffle. An appraised antique Dresden Plate quilt, a barn quilt by Kathy Reisen, a night’s stay at Lancaster’s Sleep Inn, pillows and pictures made using antique quilt blocks, a gift basket from The Coffee Tree, and a gift certificate and pillows from RES Embroidery & Sewing are among the great prizes. There is also an admission of $5 and free to GCHS members from the 13th through the 17th for the quilt display during Museum hours of 1-4PM. On Saturday, February 18th, the Museum will be open from 9AM-5PM and admission is $10 or $5 for GCHS members to help with expenses.
