Your Wisconsin Vacation Experiences

- Jan 9 - Heartfelt thanks. Dear all
Thank you for the fantastic 'Around Wisconsin' I live in Canberra, Australia but have a dear friend who lives in wonderful Wisconsin. We write emails daily to each other and I find I have a lot more to talk about and ask her as a result of receiving my regular To 'Around Wisconsin'.
Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas and New Year and once again thank you.

- Jan 9 - Wonderful Wisconsin. As a former member of the original marketing committee and the Governor's tourism council, just wanted you to know how proud I am to see the continuing quality work being done on behalf of promotion for wonderful Wisconsin!
Thanks, and best wishes to all who may remember me...and even to those who don't! - M. Kelly
- Dec 27 - Golf vacation at Door County. We took a golf vacation at Newport Resort in Egg Harbor. The resort offered many nice amenities, including a grill area which we used. The rooms were fantastic as well as the staff. I can't wait to go back summer of 08. We found many well-maintained, scenic golf courses & had a very relaxing vacation. Thank you wistravel.com!! I love this website. - Barb Wegner
- Dec 13 - Riding the Wind(sled). January, Bayfield-Lake Superior. We're standing at the City Dock looking out at the ice that stretches to Madeline Island. A few days ago the Madeline Island Ferry was still crunching through from Bayfield to LaPointe. If you're just here for fun, you can't beat the adventure. It's a fun ride. Today it's quiet. You can't hear much except occasionally there's a big "eeeehhhhhk" - the sound of lake ice cracking. But now the stuff is too thick for even the big ferry boats to run. And it's not yet thick enough to risk a crossing by auto.
But we're in luck. It's windsled season and time for one of Wisconsin's rarest rides. The windsled usually only runs 10-20 days a year, more or less. Most people have never had a ride in one. But you can.
Ante up $5 and step aboard one of these crazy boats with an airplane engine mounted on the back. Make room for a few islanders (the ones packing bags of groceries, boxes of provisions, and maybe accompanied by a dog). Grab a seat, smile and cozy up to Old Rover, we're all friends on the Island! All aboard? It can be a noisy and bumpy 15 minute ride as you bounce over snow drifts, iced waves and maybe even drop into the lake for a moment. These island boat pilots are experienced and know how to get up the sled up out of the water. When you arrive at the island check to see when the next sled goes back and sync your watches. You don't want to miss it. You'll likely have time to visit a bar or restaurant and meet a few locals who are always good for a story. But don't miss the return sled or they'll have a name for you here: Islander.

- May 21 - Really like your Around Wisconsin. You certainly do a wonderful job with the Around Wisconsin newsletter. I'd love to move to Wisconsin and spend all of my weekends attending the festivals. I'll have to retire early and do just that! - B. Nelson
