Everglades City Florida

Everglades City is 1/2 hour from Naples & Marco Island, less than 1 1/2 hours from Miami, Ft. Lauderdale & Ft. Myers & 2 hours from West Palm Beach.
Everglades City is called the Gateway to the 10,000 Islands. It is one end of the Wilderness Waterway, linking Everglades City to Flamingo. It's a great place to rent canoes or kayaks, hook up with a guided paddling excursion, or to base your explorations of Big Cypress National Preserve, Everglades National Park, and Fakahatchee Strand State Preserve. Prior to 1923, it was called Everglade, a name given to the settlement along the crooked little Allen's River in 1893. George T. Storter is considered the true founder of the town, as he and his family were prominent in Everglade's growth and activities and owned much of the land around the town. It was under the Storter stewardship the Everglade began to draw visitors and sportsmen.
Today, tourism is the main industry of Everglades City. Airboat, swamp buggy rides and alligator wrestling, beckon tourists to explore the natural wonders of Everglades City. Each February, about 50,000 people attend the Annual Seafood Festival.
