Pieta Brown's own blend of folk, rock, country and blues has garnered numerous comparisons to musical forbearers like Rickie Lee Jones, Bobbie Gentry, and Bob Dylan. Lyrically and musically poetic, Brown's deceptive simplicity and seductive purity combine to create songs that meet somewhere between the Carter Family and Tom Waits. • Mar 19 - Mar 20 Stoughton - The Del McCoury Band. General admission. During the late 1950s and 1960s, a young banjo player and tenor singer named Delano Floyd McCoury was cutting his bluegrass teeth in the bars of Baltimore. Bill Monroe suggested Del try out for the spot of lead singer and guitar player in his Blue Grass Boys. After a few years, Del was fronting his own Dixie Pals. In 1981, Del's son Ronnie McCoury became his father's mandolin player, and Ronnie has blossomed into the best bluegrass mandolinist you can hear today. And in 1987, Del renamed The Dixie Pals to The Del McCoury Band when his other son Robbie also joined his father, first as the bass player and then switching over to banjo. Fiddler Jason Carter and bassist Alan Bartrum round out the quintet. Del has proven not to be a relic of bluegrass music's past, but an architect of it's future. • Apr 10 - Apr 10 Stoughton - Greg Brown in Concert. For an eclectic musician like Greg Brown, folk music as a description doesn't do any justice to his art. Known for his personal and intimate concerts, Brown's most revealing recordings are live. At times his songs sound a little like Taj Mahal, while other times they're flat out political folk songs like Pete Seeger. Stoughton Opera House, 381 East Main St.. Event starts at 7:30PM.
