In the midst of the Chequamegon National Forest is the four season recreational region known as the Cable Area of Northwest Wisconsin. This pristine environment with an abundance of wildlife, clean air and an unhurried pace of life will capture you. View the clear brilliant blue skies of day, the spectacular sunsets, and the millions of stars illuminating the nights. The area has a close bond to the forest, utilizing the great woods as its economic lifeblood. The local economy remains strongly influenced by logging and tourism. That's why you find a healthy respect for the forest and the wildlife and fauna within it. As gateways to the forest, the Cable Area communities know that their futures depend on a well-balanced, sustainable approach to our great forest resource.

Over three hundred miles of mapped and marked trails greet the mountain bike enthusiast in the Cable Area. It's not unusual to sight deer, bear, porcupine, bald eagles, and a wide assortment of other forest animals. Wildflowers bloom from late May through the summer. From June through September, berry picking (wild strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries), can add a tasty diversion to your tour. The fall colors begin in late August and reach their splendid peak near the end of September. Most trails in the system are rideable from May through November, almost 7 months of fat tire fun!

The sister lakes of Owen and Namakagon are the hub of the activity in the Cable Area, and are home to many local residents and the most common location for area resorts. Here you will find fine dining, family-friendly taverns and accommodations for all tastes. These lakes also boast outstanding fishing, public beaches, picnic areas, and diverse canoeing and boating. The communities of Cable, Drummond, Namakagon and Grand View are stops for services and supplies. Offering groceries, gas, post office, churches and general conveniences to resident and visitor alike. The communities are also home to many events, from pancake feeds to world class sporting events such as the American Birkebeiner XC Ski Race.

When the snow flies, enjoy cross-country skiing, ice skating, snowshoeing and ice fishing. Snowmobiling attracts scores of enthusiasts to the expertly groomed forest trails. All of the area's resorts, restaurants & taverns are located with easy access to trails and conveniently located pit stops. Warm fireplaces and friendly company await you for a relaxing evening. When you come to the Cable Area, you'll feel at home in every season and take away lifelong memories of your visit.
