| Winter Fun Still Abounds in Wisconsin
Some parts of Wisconsin have had the usual temporary February Thaw, but there's still plenty of Winter fun happening all around the state. Just make sure you call ahead and check on snow conditions for the snow-dependent events! This week we bring you an eclectic mix of outdoor and indoor delights. The biggest, baddest Cross Coutry ski race in North America, the Birkebeiner, is coming up near Hayward, and it's Winter Festival time in Madison! Get out and Around Wisconsin. The snow won't last forever!

5th Madison Winter Festival |

February 13th thru 15th, 2009 Madison
The running of the Madison Winter Festival is expected to attract between 40,000 and 60,000 participants and spectators to downtown Madison. Watch as Madison's Capitol Square is transformed into a winter wonderland with ice and snow sculptures, tubing hill and snowboard rail jam, World class cross country ski racing, and snowshoeing venues during this weekend-long event. This family oriented festival includes special events at the museums, public open skiing and more. This year, there will be again an attempt to break the World Record at the US100 meter sprint event.

Mid-Continent Railway Snow Train |

February 13th thru 15th, 2009 North Freedom
This will be the 33rd year for Snow Train, a unique and unforgettable train ride experience. Enjoy Mid-Continent's seven-mile, 50-minute round-trip ride on a former branch line of the Chicago & North Western Railroad, through a Winter Wonderland at the foot of the Baraboo Hills. All cars are kept comfortably warm using the 100-yr-old tradition of steam heating or coal-fired stoves. First Class and Dining Services are available; reservations requested. Hinder Binder Cross-Country Ski Race |

Racing includes a 22K classic or freestyle, an 8K high school race, 5th - 8th Grade JV and shorter kids' races. Saturday Registration 8AM; races start at 10AM. Rib Lake Ski Trails. Three convenient trailheads provide off-road parking. Registration and Awards Ceremony will be held at the Rib Lake High School. Showers and food available. Sponsored by the Rib Lake Ski & Snowshoe Club. Race starts at Little Rib Road on Highway D in Rib Lake.

16th Annual Neosho Cup Snowmobile Races |

February 14th, 2009 Neosho, WI in Dodge County
Annual "lakecross" snowmobile races and radar run. Hot food and beverages. Free admission. There's even a race for the spectators: "Bed racing" will be held at intermission, where teams can sign up to push a bed customized by Gutschenritter's Welding with skis and handlebars around a course for prizes. There will also be a "candy drop" for the kids, a Jalopy Run of old sleds, and possibly even racing sausages! RVC Club President Jim Beine encourages everyone to come out and have a good time! Neosho Pond. Event starts at 10:00AM.

It's Birkie Fever! The magic unfolds February 19-21, 2009 when 9,000 fit, colorfully-clad skiers from all walks of life and from around the world descend on northern Wisconsin to ski some of the most beautiful and challenging trails in the world. North America's largest and most prestigious X-C ski marathon. 8,000 skiers of all ages, genders and nationalities participate in the 51K Birkebeiner, the 23K Kortelopet, the children's Barnebirkie, Junior Birkie, Elite Sprints, Family Fun Ski and Citizen Sprints. Main Street in Hayward.
