Time to Carve Up the Pumpkins!

One of the first things to do to get ready for Halloween is carve a pumpkin. Jolly jack-o'-lanterns are a traditional welcome for trick-or-treaters. Get your gourd on, visit the Wistravel Wisconsin Events Page, and create the best pumpkin on your block. Light up your pumpkins all Around Wisconsin.

Pringle Nature Center 5K Run/Hike & Fall Fun Fest

5K Trail Run

October 11th, 2008 Bristol
5K timed trail run with top three medals in each age group. This event precedes the Fall Fun Fest. The race begins at 9AM sharp. Registration fees are $15 before October 3rd and $18 after Oct. 3 and on race day. Register online, in person on race day starting at 7AM, or in person at the nature center Tuesday-Sunday 9AM-4PM. Registration fee includes a t-shirt, awards, refreshments, and tickets to the Fall Family Festival. Free daycare will also be offered to any race participant with small children.

Plus, American Legion/VFW beer garden, many specials for the day by downtown bars and restaurants, official dedication ceremony at the Commerce Plaza, and burying of the time capsule. Also a scarecrow contest, children’s coloring contest, free children’s games and activities. Norskedalen's Civil War Heritage Weekend

Norskedalen and Company B 2nd Wisconsin Civil War Re-enactors present living history - both days feature drills, skirmishes, well as demonstrations of life in 1863 in this authentic setting. Just before 1PM settle down on the overlooking hill to watch the main battle break out on the field below as the Confederate troops converge on Yankee lines. Cannon fire echos off the surrounding valley walls, gunsmoke and battlenoises fill the air as an actual skirmish unfolds before you. Throughout the day you can wander the grounds visiting cabins occupied by re-enactors in complete costume and character, battlefield surgeons and uniformed soldiers on drill. US Hwys 14 & 61. 9:00AM- 4PM.

Big Top Chautauqua's 30th Star is a songwitness account celebrating 150 years of Wisconsin statehood. The show recalls the era when immigrant families searched for opportunity in the Wisconsin wilds. Audience members will also hear voyageurs who witnessed the transformation of this land and much more. These tales are told through songs, storytelling, and hundreds of historic photographs drawn from archives and collections across the state. Performed at Heider Center for the Arts, 405 E. A community wide festival focused on the outdoors and the river way. Enjoy Big Top Chautauqua at Lakefront Park for a free evening concert on Thursday, October 16. The Blue Canvas Orchestra led by Warren Nelson will perform Wild Woods & Waters - A Celebration of the St. Croix River. It includes a wide range of original bluegrass & folk music and a large screen slide show as the backdrop for nine musicians. Friday evening is highlighted by Taste of Hudson along with a selection of wines and craft beers from the region. Saturday features a Catch & Release fishing tournament, boat show & marketplace, childrens' activity area, a lumberjack show and live music.
