71st Annual Wilhelm Tell Festival in New Glarus

August 29th thru Sept 01st, 2008 New Glarus
Come and enjoy this unique ethnic presentation! Share with your family the story of Swiss independence , written by German playwright Friedrich Schiller. It's a live theater presentation with intricate costumes and a lively cast that includes goats, cows and horses. More than 200 local volunteers join to make each colorful performance come to life. Performances are staged in a beautiful outdoor setting, at the Tell Grounds on Hwy. W, east of New Glarus. Saturday: German presentation at 10AM, English presentation at 2PM. Sunday's English presentation begins at 1PM. Also: 48th annual Wilhelm Tell Festival Art in the Park, Sunday, 9AM-4PM in Village Park.

2008 Riverfront Jazz Festivalr

Riverfront Jazz Festival

August 30th & 31st, 2008 Stevens Point
Pfiffner Pioneer Park, Stevens Point's historic downtown green space featuring an acoustically sound band shell along the river's edge, featuring Jazz from throughout the MidWest. The park will be transformed for the festival with outdoor cafes offering world cuisine from top area restaurants as well as snacks like ice cream and popcorn. Pfiffner Bandshell, Crosby Avenue, along the scenic Wisconsin River. 4-10PM. Funds generated by the Riverfront Jazz Festival support the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra/UWSP Scholarship String Quartet and the UW-Stevens Point Jazz Program.

A spectacular kite festival that is fun for the entire family. Kites fill the sky with shapes and colors. Demonstrations of single, dual and quad line kites. Kite making and special races for the kids. The festival runs from 11AM to 4PM both days. Additional activities include a night fly on Saturday August 30th and free kite making for kids on Sunday from 9-11AM. Ben Franklin himself will show up during the kite making hours. There will also be a bonfire on the beach Saturday night.Spectacular displays of huge banners lining the beach. Indoor kite display at the JE Hamilton Community House, 1520 17th Street on Friday & Saturday. Neshotah Beach.

Marina Fest in Sister Bay

Live entertainment all around the Marina grounds, raffles, food and beverages including brats, hamburgers, corn-on-the cob, popcorn, nachos, ice cream and whitefish sandwiches are served throughout the day. Also, a giant used book sale, a classic wooden boat show, a classic “woodie” car display, horse and wagon rides, and Coast Guard displays. Water ski show by the Waterboard Warriors. At dusk, lighted and decorated boats compete for prizes, and a spectacular fireworks display takes place at 8:30PM, followed by more music and a dance. Sister Bay Marina, 817 N Bay Shore Drive.

Twice a year, rain or shine, this musical jewel is held in a beautiful walnut grove on a farm near Spooner, WI. Well known gospel bands from all over the country will perform. White Lake - The Wolfman Triathlon

Point-to-point off-road triathlon, begins with a 3-mile paddle down a class II section of the Wolf River; then mountain bike for 12 miles of scenic logging roads and single track in the Northwoods. After crossing the Wolf River, bike the 3-mile trail run portion. Whitewater kayaks, canoes and inflatables (rafts or inflatable kayaks) are acceptable. Touring kayaks are allowed, but please understand that the water will be rocky and shallow. NO aluminum canoes will be accepted. Pig roast during the awards ceremony. Race limited to the first 225 start times. Bear Paw Outdoor Adventure Resort. 9AM-5PM..
