Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival |

August 22nd & 23rd, 2008 Superior
The largest dragon boat festival in the country with more than 100 international teams expected to compete. The drummer pounds a beat as the 20 paddlers propel the multicolored boat toward the finish line four hundred meters away. Each team is a maximum of 25 members, which includes 1 Team Manager, 1 Drummer, 1 Steersperson, 20 paddlers, and 2 alternates. Friday night entertainment: 6:15PM Brandon Scott Sellner & 9PM the Lamont Cranston Blues Band. Food and beverage vendors, arts and crafts fair, entertainment Saturday throughout the day. Two great events in Richland Center! The Fun Run/Walk(Saturday the 23rd) benefits children enrolled in fitness, swimming & membership programs. The Archery Shoot is held by the Richland Center Archery Club from 8AM to 3PM, & there will be food & refreshments available. Tigerton Lumberjack Days |

August 23rd & 24th, 2008 in Tigerton in Shawano County
A family weekend that features a lumberjack contest, cow chip bingo and many kids' games hosted by area non-profit groups. A free corn roast, music & bike give-away on Saturday. The large parade will be held on Sunday afternoon at 1PM, with the lumberjack contests and more live music to follow. Bingo is played and a raffle is held with the top prize of $1,000. Plenty of cold beer and soda are always available. Local church groups provide food and homemade pies. All funds go towards Tigerton area projects. Tigerton Community Park.

Wisconsin Paint Horse Futurity Show |

More than 250 beautiful horses known for their incredible coloring, array of patterns and variety of beautiful colors. Each Paint Horse has a particular combination of white and any color of the equine spectrum: black, bay, brown, chestnut, dun, grullo, sorrel, palomino, buckskin, gray or roan. Riders participate in halter, riding and futurity classes and also receive prize money. Open to all Regular, Breeding Stock and Paint Bred Registered APHA Horses. Hours: Fri: 5-8PM; Sat: 7:30AM-5PM; Sun: 7:30AM-5PM(times are approximate). Alliant Energy Center, 1919 Alliant Center Way.

71st Annual Wilhelm Tell Festival in New Glarus |

FaCome and enjoy this unique ethnic presentation! Share with your family the story of Swiss independence , written by German playwright Friedrich Schiller. It's a live theater presentation with intricate costumes and a lively cast that includes goats, cows and horses. More than 200 local volunteers join to make each colorful performance come to life. Performances are staged in a beautiful outdoor setting, at the Tell Grounds on Hwy. W, east of New Glarus. Saturday: German presentation at 10AM, English presentation at 2PM. Sunday's English presentation begins at 1PM. Also: 48th annual Wilhelm Tell Festival Art in the Park, Sunday, 9AM-4PM in Village Park.

2008 Riverfront Jazz Festivalr |

August 30th & 31st, 2008 Stevens Point
Pfiffner Pioneer Park, Stevens Point's historic downtown green space featuring an acoustically sound band shell along the river's edge, featuring Jazz from throughout the MidWest. The park will be transformed for the festival with outdoor cafes offering world cuisine from top area restaurants as well as snacks like ice cream and popcorn. Pfiffner Bandshell, Crosby Avenue, along the scenic Wisconsin River. 4-10PM. Funds generated by the Riverfront Jazz Festival support the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra/UWSP Scholarship String Quartet and the UW-Stevens Point Jazz Program.

Kites Over Lake Michigan |

August 30th & 31st, 2008 Two Rivers
A spectacular kite festival that is fun for the entire family. Kites fill the sky with shapes and colors. Demonstrations of single, dual and quad line kites. Kite making and special races for the kids. The festival runs from 11AM to 4PM both days. Additional activities include a night fly on Saturday August 30th and free kite making for kids on Sunday from 9-11AM. Ben Franklin himself will show up during the kite making hours. There will also be a bonfire on the beach Saturday night.Spectacular displays of huge banners lining the beach. Indoor kite display at the JE Hamilton Community House, 1520 17th Street on Friday & Saturday. Neshotah Beach.
