Tenth Annual Wisconsin Film Festival |
|
April 3rd thru 6th, 2008 Madison
A four-day exploration of new American independent, dramatic, and documentary films, world cinemas, animation, and experimental restorations and revivals in ten downtown Madison theaters, within walking distance in the heart of Madison. The Festival also features the work of Wisconsin filmmakers. Over 150 films and an attendance close to 30,000 make this a lively part of our state's cultural calendar. There are dozens of restaurants around the Capitol Square and on State Street, ranging from good cheap eats to some of the most sophisticated dining in the Midwest. Some of the Festival theaters will have concessions available. Founded in 1999, the Wisconsin Film Festival is the state's premier film festival.

Saturday, April 5th, 2008 Cedarburg
Presented by the Cedarburg Junior Woman's Club in conjunction with the 11th annual Wearable Art Show, where unique clothing, jewelry and accessories come together for a shopping experience that cannot be missed. The Walk is one, two or three miles. Preregistration (includes t-shirt), $20 ; Day of race: $25. Walk begins at 9:00AM at the corner of Washington Avenue and Mill Road in Cedarburg. Wear appropriate attire. This event will be held rain or shine. WEAR PINK! Strollers welcome. All proceeds benefit breast cancer awareness and prevention.

Maple Syrup Fest at MacKenzie Environmental Center |

Guided tours of the sugarbush and maple syrup making process, horse-drawn wagon rides (10AM-2PM), wildlife exhibit and museums (until 2PM), all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast sponsored by Poynette Optimist Club (Resident Center Lodge, 8AM-noon), demonstrations of home-made ice cream churned by an antique engine and how to make maple syrup in your own backyard, live music, raffle drawing (1PM). The Friends of MacKenzie will be offering refreshments and selling maple sundaes. W7303 County Hwy. CS, Poynette. 9AM to 2PM.

11th Annual Gitchee Gumee Brew Fest |

Sample more than 125 beers from 35 craft brewers from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois and Iowa. Celtic music and beer games for your entertainment. Each year the Superior Jaycees select a local group or need to receive a portion of the proceeds from the ticket sales. Only 1300 tickets available. Must be 21 years old. Designated Drivers get in FREE with a paid admission. Don't wait too long to get your tickets, they have sold out in the past 5 years! Take bowling to a whole new level of fun by converting the Chippewa Falls Ice Arena into a 16 lane bowling alley for one weekend. Live music both nights; Friday 8:30-12:30PM and Saturday 7-11PM. Trivia 39 Invasion - World's Largest Trivia Contest |

April 11th thru 13th, 2008 Stevens Point
The contest lasts 54 hours, starting Friday evening at 6PM and continuing through Sunday midnight, heard on WWSP 89.9FM, the UW-Stevens Point campus radio. Eight questions are asked over the 90FM airwaves each hour. Team contestants are given the length of time for two songs to play in which to respond with an answer. Contest is open to the public. 90FM trivia is "The World's Largest Trivia Contest". WWSP is the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point alternative radio station, the largest student operated radio station in the entire Midwest. UWSP Communications Bldg.

International Crane Foundation Volunteer Orientation |

Make a significant contribution to crane and wetland conservation! The session will include numerous speakers from ICF's various departments, providing entertaining and motivating introductions to the work of ICF. There will be a site tour to view the cranes, enjoy the spring wild flowers in the tall-grass prairie, and meet the other volunteers. Volunteers will receive a training manual that includes Crane taxonomy (the classification of birds), tips for effective communication and interpretation, and new information about ICF's programs and policies. Beverages and snacks will be provided. Bring a bag lunch. 11376 Shady Lane Road. 9AM-4PM.
