January 11th thru 20th, 2008 Eagle River
The world's premier snowmobile racing event. From its humble beginnings in Dollar Lake to the multi-million dollar facility, the Derby was destined to be the best. The original founders of the Derby never envisioned just how much impact on the Eagle River community, and indeed the entire snowmobile world, they were creating. 1400-plus entries compete for oval and sno-cross championships in front of 30,000 spectators. January 19th, 2008 Minocqua
Cross-country skiers of all ages and abilities can choose their own level at MWP's first Minocquabeiner. Whole families can participate. Select from Level I (17K), Level II (30K) or Level III (45K) Ski tours, each divided into three legs. Ski the first leg, then have a sport drink and snack at the Chalet. Ski the second leg then have lunch. Finish the third leg and enjoy refreshments back at the heated Chalet. Entry fees cover trail passes, food, beverages, event medals, and prizes. Each year, dozens of eagles winter at Prairie du Sac to fish the open waters of the Wisconsin River. This Olympic-style winter sports festival is the largest in the nation. The American Family Insurance Badger State Games are 23 years old - born in Madison, WI in July of 1985. Held on two weekends: Jan 25-27 features youth hockey, archery and bowling; Feb 1-3 features Alpine & Nordic skiing, freestyle snowboarding & skiing, ski jumping, hockey, billiards, curling, figure skating, speedskating, snowshoe racing, and the quadrathlon. Over 35 communities host Badger State competitions at some of the state's finest sports facilities. Athletes of every age and ability benefit from training and competing in their favorite sports.

January 26th, 2008 Bloomer
This contest began in 1960 when a former coach named Wally Mohrman became the physical education teacher in the schools. Knowing the value of the exercise, he decided to stir some interest with a contest. Each year interest grew. Champion jumpers emerged, and records were established to shoot at. The finals are held each year on the last Saturday in January. Each year, students from Grades 1 through 8 train hard and come to Bloomer to compete. 20-35 participating schools and approximately 240 jumpers try to break the records in the Jump Rope Capital of the World. Sunday: A breakfast at Club 13 sponsored by the Phillips Lions Club. CWIRA ATV & Motorcycle Ice Races on Elk Lake, Registration 8:30 -10:30AM ; races start at 11:30AM.
