The world's premier snowmobile racing event. From its humble beginnings in Dollar Lake to the multi-million dollar facility the Derby was destined to be the best. The original founders of the Derby never envisioned just how much impact on the Eagle River community, and indeed the entire snowmobile world, they were creating. 1400-plus entries compete for oval and sno-cross championships in front of 30,000 spectators. 22nd Annual Sleigh & Cutter Rally & Paradem

Hearkening back to a simpler time, the Northwoods Harness Club proudly presents the 22nd Annual Sleigh & Cutter Rally & Parade. The past will come alive with 1800's costumed drivers, dozens of old-fashioned sleighs and cutters, and their passengers riding in the antique sleighs drawn by beautiful horses from around the region. Great photo opportunity. There will be judged divisions, food and it will be narrated. Hookup is at 11:00AM and Exhibition will be at 1:00PM. Location: Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center, 2 1/4 Miles West of Ashland off of US 2.

Budweiser Classic Snowmobile Race

January 12 & 13, 2008 Plymouth
USSA-sanctioned professional snowmobile racing on both oval and snocross tracks. Races include Oval, Snocross, Vintage and Kitty Cats(Kids snowmobile racing for all ages 4-13). Sat - Kitty Cat Race at 11AM, oval & snocross at 3PM. Sun - oval & snocross at 11AM. All parking will be on a first come first serve basis. Hosted by the Plymouth Snow Rangers Snowmobile Club. Lake Kegonsa State Park Candlelight Cross-Country Ski

Enjoy a beautiful winter evening cross-country skiing along 2 miles of groomed ski trails lit with hundreds of glowing luminaries. When you are done, warm up by the bonfire and enjoy refreshments sold by the LKSP Friends Group. Grills will be available for cooking. Sorry, no pets or hikers are allowed on cross country ski trails. This event is weather and snow conditions permitting. Lake Kegonsa State Park, 2405 Door Creek Road. Friends of Rib Mountain Snowshoe Hikes

January 12th and 26th, 2008 Wausau
Friends of Rib Mountain have scheduled their first showshoe events of the winter, open to the public. The first one is a day hike from 11AM-2PM Jan. 12. The second will be a traditional candlelight hike from 6PM to 8PM Jan. 26. Refreshments and rentals available. Hike will be canceled if temperature is colder than -4F or wind chill is colder than -30F. Admission is per vehicle to get into the park, or a 2008 annual state park pass. Before the hike, meet at the concession stand area. Rib Mountain State Park, 4200 Park Road.

First Annual Minocquabeiner

Cross-country skiers of all ages and abilities can choose their own level at MWP's first Minocquabeiner. Whole families can participate. Select from Level I (17K), Level II (30K) or Level III (45K) Ski tours, each divided into three legs. Ski the first leg, then have a sport drink and snack at the Chalet. Ski the second leg then have lunch. Finish the third leg and enjoy refreshments back at the heated Chalet. Entry fees cover trail passes, food, beverages, event medals, and prizes. Minocqua Winter Park & Nordic Center, 12375 Scotchman Lake Road. 9AM to 2:30PM.

Each year, dozens of eagles winter at Prairie du Sac to fish the open waters of the Wisconsin River. Get "eye-to-eye" with eagles at Prairie du Sac, an exceptional location to view these majestic birds. The churning action at the base of the local dam keeps ice from forming on the surface of the water during winter, and this exposes the fish to hungry eagles.Enjoy Birds of Prey shows, guided bus tours, wildlife photography seminar, Native American legends, aerial antics, and family activities. River Arts Center-Sauk Prairie High School. Event starts at 8:00AM.

A two day weekend festival including a state-sanctioned snow sculpting competition; the winner continues on to nationals! Tubular snow slides, turkey bowling, blacksmith demonstrations, horse-drawn carriage rides, pony rides, food, Funny Bone Productions Imagination Circus at the warming tent, music & fireworks.
