24 Hours of Telemark XC Ski Relay Race

24 Hours of Telemark

January 5th thru 8th, 2008 Cable
It's not only a race-it's a happening! A cross-country ski relay race with teams of one to six members. The team in each category completing the most laps in 24 hours wins. Held each winter since 2002, this x-c race is fun for cross-country skiers of all abilities. The course is a short but challenging loop immediately adjacent to Telemark Lodge. With the course right out the door of the lodge, it's just a few short steps from skiing to warm rooms and changes of clothes, as well as Telemark's outstanding hospitality. There are 18 categories for all abilities, including solo, duo, 3, 6, 12, & 24-hour races! Call for registration info. 42225 Telemark Road.

Merrill Ice Drags 2008 Race Season

January 5 thru February 9, 2008 Merrill
Dragsters, muscle cars and trucks race on an 1/8-mile strip of ice on Lake Alexander. These things have 5,000 to 6,000 screws in each tire for traction! Test & Tune Day is Jan 5th. Championships held Feb 2nd. Grudge Matches on Feb 9th! 2008 Race Dates: Test & Tune- January 5. Races - January 12, 19, 26 and February 2. Grudge racing February 9th (weather permitting). Call for registration info. New feature: Meet the Racer features a member/racer of the Merrill Ice Draggers. Held on Lake Alexander at Council Grounds State Park. State Park Sticker Required. Races start at Noon.

7th Annual Polar Bear Plunge in St. Germain

Last year 128 plungers raised $24,600 for Angel On My Shoulder. Gather up your friends and jump as a team. There will be food and beverages available before & after the plunge, raffle prizes after the plunge. Plungers will be eligible for special drawings and there is a prize for the best costume. Prize awarded for the jumper with the highest pledge total. Sign up now to take the Plunge! Call for pledge sheets and registration form. Candlelight Ski/Hike at Mirror Lake State Park

The Friends of Mirror Lake State Park will be hosting a torchlight ski/hike along two 1 mile trails within the park. Bring your skis and/or hiking boots and join in for a fun family outing. As always, there will be roaring bonfires to stay warm and also food, goodies and other refreshments for sale. A Wisconsin State Park Admission Sticker is required and may be purchased at the office upon entrance. Exit I-90-94 to U.S. Highway 12 south of Wisconsin Dells. Go south on Highway 12 about .5 mile to Fern Dell Road. Turn west (right) on Fern Dell Road and go about 1.5 miles, park entrance on your right. Event starts at 6:00PM and ends at 8:00PM.

Peak Throwdown Ski & Snowboard Competition

Granite Peak, Wausau, Wisconsin

January 5th, 2008 Wausau
Free area competition allowing registered amateur participants - contest will consist of two (2) best trick events in two age brackets: Big Air 14 and under and Adult 15 and older, and Rail Jam 14 and under and Adult 15 and older. Participants will be allowed to compete in only one (1) category. No professional skiers or riders allowed. Judges will base scores on creativity/difficulty of tricks, cleanest execution, style and consistency. Pre-Register at Shepherd & Shaller Sporting Goods, or day of event (if space allows) at Granite Peak. Check-In 9-10:00AM; FREE Competition begins at 10:30AM. Lift ticket & Adult signature required.

The world's premier snowmobile racing event. From its humble beginnings in Dollar Lake to the multi-million dollar facility the Derby was destined to be the best. The original founders of the Derby never envisioned just how much impact on the Eagle River community, and indeed the entire snowmobile world, they were creating. 1400-plus entries compete for oval and sno-cross championships in front of 30,000 spectators. A spectacular show with some of the best racing in the Friday Night Thunder races. Racing Daily at 10AM. Eagle River Derby Track.

22nd Annual Sleigh & Cutter Rally & Paradem

Hearkening back to a simpler time, the Northwoods Harness Club proudly presents the 22nd Annual Sleigh & Cutter Rally & Parade. The past will come alive with 1800's costumed drivers, dozens of old-fashioned sleighs and cutters, and their passengers riding in the antique sleighs drawn by beautiful horses from around the region. Great photo opportunity. There will be judged divisions, food and it will be narrated. Hookup is at 11:00AM and Exhibition will be at 1:00PM. Location: Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center, 2 1/4 Miles West of Ashland off of US 2.

Budweiser Classic Snowmobile Race

January 12 & 13, 2008 Plymouth
USSA-sanctioned professional snowmobile racing on both oval and snocross tracks. Races include Oval, Snocross, Vintage and Kitty Cats(Kids snowmobile racing for all ages 4-13). Sat - Kitty Cat Race at 11AM, oval & snocross at 3PM. Sun - oval & snocross at 11AM. All parking will be on a first come first serve basis. Hosted by the Plymouth Snow Rangers Snowmobile Club.
