With so much to do and so little time till the end of August, it's time to grab those umbrellas and get out for some Wisconsin fun! The Midwest is seeing an unusual amount of rain lately, so before you head out to any of these events, check the website and /or call ahead in case of scheduling changes.

75th Annual Rutabaga Festival

August 22 thru 26, 2007 Cumberland
Since 1932, Cumberland has annually celebrated this oft-forgotten veggie. Live music on the Main Stage includes: The Dweebs, Pat Mccurdy, G.B. Leighton, Tennessee Whiskey Bottle Blues Band, Christy Love, Toybox, and Vic Ferrari. Also enjoy the Miss Cumberland Pageant, a pedal tractor pull, pepper-eating contest, basketball shootout, a massive Arts & Crafts Show throughout downtown Cumberland, Farmers Market, morning bike tour, and the Rutabaga Grand Parade. All of Cumberland invites you to attend and just have fun!!

9th Annual Ducks Unlimited Great Outdoors Festival |

August 24 thru 26, 2007 Oshkosh
An event the entire family can enjoy, the Festival is composed of "sporting villages," each featuring a specific interest - shooting, fishing, archery, conservation, hunting dogs, camping, and off-road vehicles. Activities include rock climbing, shooting, canoeing, fishing, driving SUVs, archery, dog training, and more. Both novice and experienced sports enthusiasts can try outdoor sporting products under true-to-life conditions with skilled professionals to coach them. A full complement of youth activities are also offered, including a fishing pond, air rifle marksmanship, dog handling clinics and firearm safety training. 3000 Poberezny Road.

Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival

August 24 thru 25, 2007 Superior
Annual fundraising event organized by the Superior Rotary Club and Duluth's Harbortown Rotary Club. The race is held in the Superior Bay off Barkers Island in Superior and includes a traditional dragon boat race as well as a host of other exciting and entertaining festivities. Friday: Parade of Teams, Opening Ceremonies, Misora Taiko Drummers, music by The Black Labels. Saturday: Optimists Pancake Breakfast, Races begin, Youth Activities, Family Entertainment, Rose Petal Ceremony. 3PM - music by SweetGrass; 8PM - music by Fired Up.

Frogs Eat Flies at Brillion Nature Center |

Check out some of the many kinds of frogs and learn about the lives and habits of these amazing amphibians. Next to the Nature Center Building is Jason's Pond, where the group will take nets out and do some "froggin". Hikers can follow the boardwalk out to the marsh overlook to view wildlife or stroll Behnke Prairie, which contains a restored wildflower prairie containing over fifty species such as compassplant, rosinweed, prairie dock, yellow coneflower, purple prairie clover, prairie blazingstar, and many more. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. 10:30AM - 11:30AM. W1135 Deer View Road.

Wisconsin State Cow Chip Throw & Art Fair |

This is one of Wisconsin's fastest-growing and most unique local festivals, drawing people from all over the world. Don't miss "Cowabunga" the Trojan Cow. At 13'6" tall, she has a head that moves from side to side and carries a belly full of children, who dispense T-shirts and cow chips. Friday: Live music and Sauk Prairie Area Corporate Cow Chip Throw Challenge at 7PM. Saturday: Cow Chip Classic Run 8:00AM(5K, 10K), Arts & Crafts Fair 9AM - 5PM, Children's Chip Chuckin' 9AM - Noon, Tournament of Chips Parade at Noon, Wisconsin State Cow Chip Throw 2PM, food court all day by area service groups. Wilhelm Tell Festival in New Glarus |

Share with your family the story of Swiss independence, written by German playwright Friedrich Schiller. It's a live theater presentation with intricate costumes and a lively cast that includes goats, cows and horses. More than 200 local volunteers make each colorful performance come to life. Shows are in a beautiful outdoor setting, just a short distance from downtown New Glarus. Saturday: German presentation at 10AM, English presentation at 2PM. Sunday's English presentation at 1PM. Also Swiss music, a yodeling contest, art fair in the park(Sun 9AM-4PM), a Swiss fashion show and children's lantern parade(Friday 8PM). Tell Grounds on Hwy. W.

Norskedalen is a nature and heritage center dedicated to preserving, interpreting and sharing the natural environment and cultural heritage of the area surrounding Coon Valley in southwest Wisconsin. Enjoy an old-fashioned ice cream social in the open-air museum setting at the Skumsrud Heritage Farm just 1/2 mile west of Coon Valley. Admission is free. The afternoon will feature: Ranison's delicious ice cream treats (make your own sundaes, ice cream cones and root beer floats). Also a LIVE auction featuring antiques, handcrafted items and other unique items. Many children's games including face painting, yard games, checkers and more. From 11AM. - 5PM. US Hwys 14 & 61.
